One day last week my son and I left the only shoes that fit him in another state. We’ll get them back, but we didn’t have them that day. I sent my son to school in his flip-flops, but halfway to the door of the school he was limping. Luckily, he switches to slippers as soon as he gets to his classroom. After school we went to have a picnic lunch at a nearby playground. He seemed to be doing fine with the flip-flops but then he took one off and showed me his “boo-boo.” His feet were red and he had more than one sore spot.
“Let’s go,” I said, and hoisted him onto my back for the walk back to the car. We headed to my favorite shoe store in downtown Nashua: Alec’s Shoes. As we were driving there, I thought about where we would park. Normally, I don’t really care because it’s a beautiful day and it’s nice to take a walk in the downtown area, but because of my son’s sore feet, I wanted to park right in front of the store.
Lately, I’ve been really good at manifesting prime parking spots. So I drove down Main Street and I saw a parking spot right in front of Alec’s. But was it really a parking spot or was it for people with handicaps? As I drove past, I realized it wasn’t a handicapped space; it was a really good parking spot. Unusually, there was another one, right in front of the store. Again, my mind questioned whether it was real or not so I didn’t slow down in time to pull in.
I drove around the block and came back to Main Street. A car was parked in the first spot I’d seen and the truck in front of me pulled into the second spot. Wow, I thought, I just passed up two perfect parking spots.
I saw another great spot, just a little further down the street. That one I took.
The whole episode made me realize a couple of things.
- I am really good at manifesting the things I want in my life.
- If I don’t believe I can have what I want, I’m not going to get it, even when it’s right in front of me!
I recently spent an evening talking about Law of Attraction with a group of people and shared with them my favorite tool for manifesting what I want in my life: The trick is to want what you want from a place of knowing that you already have it and to be unattached to whether or not you get it.
It’s not easy to want something and still feel unattached to whether or not you get it. But that’s the trick. When we want from a place of desperation, we push away what we want.
I practice this type of wanting by wanting what I already have. If I already have it, it feels really good to want it, right? Then I notice that I’m okay no matter what happens.
Usually when I’m looking for a great parking spot, I want the spot from a place of knowing it’s there waiting for me and that, if it’s not, that’s because somehow not having that spot is better than having it. That day, I felt that I needed the parking spot and I was afraid I wasn’t going to get it. I was coming from a negative place and, therefore, couldn’t manifest it (even when it was right in front of me.)
As soon as I realized what I was thinking and how I was feeling, I changed both so I felt much better—and snagged a primo spot right where I needed it!
What are you manifesting in your life?
