Access Wisdom Book Club July 2025

The Access Wisdom Book Club has changed. It’s now a collaboration between me and all the participants. A core group has gathered to put forward the books that have helped them access their own wisdom. Each month we’ll discuss a different book and we’ll meet on the second Thursday of the month at my local library, Rogers Memorial Library, in Hudson, NH. 

July’s book is Why Won’t You Apologize? Healing Big Betrayals and Everyday Hurts, by Harriet Lerner, PhD. We recently read another book by Harriet Lerner, and this one is another keeper. Sensible insights that you can use to improve your relationships–with others and with yourself.

In August, we’re going to discuss Pema Chödrön’s newest book, How We Live is How We Die. 

I’ve always thought the saying, “How you do anything is how you do everything,” has a lot of truth to it, and I’m reminded of that saying with the title of this book. In the book, Pema Chödrön offers us many tools to deal with our fear of death. You don’t have to be a Buddhist to learn from this book. From the book: “Our task, in life and death, is to realize we have a choice. We can fall asleep into unawareness and stay stuck in the repeating cycle of samsara, or we can wake up.”

Rest and Play

Rest and play seem to be very low on our list these days, but research shows that rest and play are essential to a healthy, happy life. Join me for a discussion of what rest and play mean to you and some strategies to help you fit it into your daily life.

Inner Critic to Inner Ally

We all have that inner critic, that little voice in our heads that tells us we’re “not good enough” or we’re “doing it wrong!” Please join me as we explore a simple exercise that will turn the inner critic into an inner ally. Using a tried and true neurolinguistic programming (NLP) technique, we’ll change that inner voice into a voice that supports us and encourages us.
