Wordless Walk in Winter

Wordless Walks

Let’s go for a walk in the woods together…in silence.

There is something magical about walking through a beautiful setting with a group of people in intentional silence. The gift of silence is something we allow ourselves less and less in these busy, technology-filled days. When we walk in silence we can access a deeper part of ourselves and gain wisdom that we can’t easily hear in our day-to-day life.

Let’s take some time and spend it together…in silence.

How we’ll do it: We will gather in a group. Once we have gathered, we will speak together for a few minutes, then we will draw the curtain down on our words and walk together in silence, for about 50 minutes, before gathering again at the entrance to the park. Once we lift the curtain of silence and speak again, we will have a few minutes together before we go our separate ways, feeling calmer, more connected to ourselves and our natural world, and ready to take action from a place of peace.

Goals Group 2017

Some of you may know that I love goals! I like setting them, tweaking them, working toward them, and, of course, accomplishing them!

In 2017, I’d like to help you set–and accomplish–some goals of your own.

I’ve set up a Goals Group to facilitate you (and me!) to create, set, and accomplish some major goals. I believe I can motivate you–and we can motivate each other. I have important goals I want to accomplish in 2017 and I know you do, too. It’s worth setting aside time to make our goals happen. We’ll meet monthly, either virtually (via Google Hangouts) or in person, and we’ll stay in touch weekly, even daily, via our private Facebook group.

My goal (pun intended!) for this group is to create a place of acceptance and accountability. We will work together to set our individual goals and use the power of the group to motivate each other toward accomplishing our goals. We will reassess and course-correct as needed so we can finish the year strong, with the satisfaction of goals accomplished.

What’s included:

  • Monthly in-person or virtual goal group meeting.
  • Facilitator: Diane MacKinnon
  • Accountability check-ins designed by you, given by me (some people need more, some less, accountability!)
  • Private Facebook group
  • Worksheets and Exercise to help clarify your goals and break them down into manageable sub-goals.

Pay What It’s Worth Coaching Days

Last fall I celebrated Back to School and Back to Work by creating a “Pay What’s It’s Worth” Coaching Day. Clients scheduled sessions with me on a particular day, had the session with me, and then paid me whatever they thought the session was worth.

I coached some new people, gave some value, and enjoyed the day so much I’m doing a whole week of Pay What It’s Worth this fall!

If you’ve never tried coaching before, now’s your chance! You can have a 1-on-1 session and see what you think about the whole coaching process. If it’s not valuable, no worries! If it is, pay me whatever you think it’s worth. It’s a win-win for you and for me.

Individual Coaching Sessions

When: September 18-21

Where: Via conference call or in person

Fee: Whatever you think it’s worth!

Retreat to Write

This fall, let’s plan some time away from our daily lives: a time to write. Arrange for a babysitter, put supper in the crock pot, or do whatever else you need to do to step away for one day to do what you almost never have time for: write.

Once you make all the arrangements, meet me in the Community Room at Rodger’s Memorial Library. The light is beautiful and there are plenty of chairs, tables, and plugs!

We’ll start out the day doing some short writing exercises together to get the juices flowing, and then we’ll move into longer periods of writing so you can work on your own project. Bring your current WIP (work-in-progress,) your ideas for that blog, or the notes you’ve been making on that novel. I’ll have plenty of prompts and exercises if you need help getting started and I’ll give you all the time you want if you are ready to go!

The fee will include morning coffee, a box lunch, and some Writer’s Swag!

Live Event

When: September 30, 9:30 AM-4:30 PM

Where: Community Room, Rodger’s Memorial Library, Hudson, NH

Strategies for Overcoming Obstacles

In the almost 15 years I’ve been coaching myself and others, I’ve found some tried and true methods to manage the series of obstacles that make up our daily lives. No matter what our goals are, there are obstacles to overcome. Sometimes there are obstacles to overcome just to get to work in the morning!

Please join me for an interactive presentation on strategies for overcoming obstacles. You’ll leave with methods you can use immediately and a handout with resources to continue your learning.

We’ll do some warm-up writing exercises together, then spend the rest of the morning working on our own projects. Come and we’ll face that blank page together!

We’ll spend the last 15 minutes together reading our work out loud or discussing our progress. We’ll design each session together. Feel free to come to once session or come every month!

Acceptance, love, growth, evolution. All these are part of a healthy life. Coaching and self-coaching can foster all of these. We have to live it to give it(in my opinion) and self-coaching can help you gain the skills you need to not just live, but thrive.

Love the One You’re With (that’s You!)

Opportunity Costs

Opportunity Cost

Opportunity cost is a microeconomics term used to describe the fact that we can’t do everything. Whatever choice we make means we will leave some choices behind. This concept helps us understand why we have trouble making decisions–what if we miss out on something great? These days, it’s also called FOMO (Fear of Missing Out.)

During this presentation we’ll discuss the concept of opportunity cost, how it can paralyze us, and how to evaluate the opportunity cost of any decision so we can make good decisions and move forward in our lives.

How to Make–Or Break–a Habit

Our brains are amazing organs that allow us to function beautifully in the world. One of the tools our brains use effectively are habits–things we do over and over again until we don’t need to consciously think about what we are doing. This is a good thing–and a bad thing. We drive to work without having to think about it, but we also eat dessert without thinking about it, turn on the TV without thinking about it, and do many other things that don’t necessarily serve us well.

In this presentation, we will discuss how our brains work to create habits and how we can use this knowledge to make habits that serve us and to break habits that hold us back from being our best selves. Handouts will be provided.

At the Coach’s Table

Have you ever sat around a table covered with great food and had one of those conversations you knew you’d never forget? One full of laughter and fun, but also real people talking about the things that are truly important to them?

I’ve been longing for an experience like that.

I want to eat healthy food that tastes amazing while I sit around a table with a group of friends and dive into the deep stuff while also laughing until my sides hurt.

I crave one table and one conversation where each person present gets to say their piece, to consider some questions that might help them move forward, and to find out what they are ready to let go of.

Coaching, conversation, and comradery. What could be better than that?

I’ve decided to stop waiting for the experience. I’ve scheduled a date and time for the feast, the fun, and the friends!

Will you join me?

xo Diane

Emotional Adulthood

When we are children, the adults around us are largely responsible for our emotions because they have so much control over us. As we grow to adults, we develop the ability to manage and take responsibility for our own emotions. However, situations can drop us back into “emotional childhood,” when we give others the responsibility for our emotional life. Join me for a discussion of the differences between emotional adulthood and emotional childhood and you’ll come away with skills and tools to help you take responsibility for your own emotions. This results in more happiness, less suffering, and more peace.

The Serious Benefits of Play

Join me for a fun discussion about the benefits of play. Play comes naturally to all of us human beings, but often we lose our ability to play as we grow into adults. Research shows that one of the ways to become more effective and productive is to do something that produces nothing: play.

We will play some simple games together (no pressure!) and learn how to incorporate moments of play into our daily lives.

Reach Your Natural Weight

Don’t look back and wonder why you waited!

Get the tools you need to succeed. I’ve spent years counseling patients about how to lose weight and coaching clients on the same topic, using different tools.

Many years ago, I struggled to gain weight. At the beginning of the summer, for the first time in my life, I decided to lose some weight. 8 weeks later, I’ve lost over 15 pounds and I feel great.

If you are interested in reaching your natural weight, and would like to talk about the tools and skills that can help you do that, please join me, Diane MacKinnon, for an interactive discussion on the topic.

NaNoWriMo Write-In

It’s that time of year again! November is National Novel Writing Month! Check out the website, www.nanowrimo.org, and join the fun.

Participants of NaNoWriMo commit to writing 50,000 words in one month. The process emphasizes quantity over quality because every writer knows it’s easier to rewrite a piece than it is to come up with something when facing the blank page.

With the time constraint, we turn off those inner critics and write, write, write! In December, we can start editing.

If you’re doing NaNo and want some company for the home stretch, please join me, Diane MacKinnon, at an all-day Write-In. We’ll do some word sprints together and enjoy being alone together, practicing our craft.

P.S. Even if you aren’t doing NaNo, but want to get some writing done in the company of other writers, we’ll be taking over the Community Room at the library. The light is beautiful and there are plenty of chairs, tables, and plugs!
